Summary

SECONDARY DAMAGE CONTROL ... similar to the crucial and often overlooked AFT DAMAGE CONTROL closet on Galactica (see The Battle of 05-B9 AFT DAMAGE CONTROL Closet, but in Pegasus

the existence of this control closet in two separate Battlestars calls into question the value of having such an obvious, high-value and undefended component of the ship to even make it in to the design plans to begin with

it is assumed that Caine had personally designed many of the modular components of Pegasus and had used her considerable resources to have an abundance of topline technology and weapons installed on every available mounting surface

Pegasus was known throughout the fleet as having so many cannons that she required two additional engines compared to her original class design and several decks worth of science lab space was fitted to house permanent cooling equipment for her forward ammo hoists alone

To support the power requirements of these larger and more abundant cannons, slightly longer but more narrow and much more powerful main engines were mounted in the original cowlings - the result of this is that Pegasus is much faster than Galactica in straight sub-light speed, yet remains harder to control than Galactica when docking with smaller, slower ships or when flying in tight formation to anything but her own airgroup ... it would have required a lot of ferrying to get Ragnar empty if Pegasus had been there in Galacticas place

these extreme modifications to Pegasus are one possible explanation why a closet like SECONDARY DAMAGE CONTROL may be a necessary risk
