This page is an official policy of Battlestar Wiki Media.
This policy is considered by the community and its leadership to be the status quo of Battlestar Wiki Media and is not to be countermanded or ignored, though changes to it can be discussed on the appropriate talk page. This policy was implemented on 14 April 2005.

The image tagging policy deals with the proper identification, categorization and tagging of photos used in the wiki. For the policy on proper image use on this wiki, click here. There are many tags that mean different things.

Rationale

In order to properly identify images, as well as to offer the proper credit, the images need to be tagged. This page covers how to tag a photo and to which tag should be used. To use the tag to it's full potential value, please look at the template to see how to format the data.

Fair use

Since Battlestar Wiki Media doesn't actually own the rights to Battlestar Galactica, these images are used under the fair use clause of United States copyright law. Thus all these tags reflect this.

Other Tags
Most of the images found from here are from Battlestar related websites, press kits, and/or scans of Battlestar material.

Creative Commons, Public Domain, GNU, Etc.

Any images licensed under a copyleft license, namely Creative Commons, or released into the public domain should use these tags.
Other Sites
These tags are to be tagged from images gathered from these sites.

Battlestar Wiki Related Tags

These tags are vaild for copyright information only and to be used on images for the Battlestar Wiki itself.

Image type tags

These tags need another tag to indicate it's source and/or copyright to be fully correct.

Other uses

  • {{user image}} - Used exclusively for photos used in the User namespace, namely on user's pages. These images may be licensed under any license, as so long as the copyright owner is identified. Images are placed under Category:User images.
  • {{silly image}} - Used exclusively for images that are user created that come from more than one source. Images are placed under Category:Silly images.
  • {{BW image}} - Used exclusively for Battlestar Wiki images. These are images released under the same license as Battlestar Wiki's articles. These images are used for "site use". Images are placed under Category:Battlestar Wiki Media images.
  • {{OfficialImage}} - Used exclusively for images that are uploaded/given to Battlestar Wiki Media by an Official member of the cast/crew of Battlestar Galactica (RDM). These images are used with permission and may not be distributed outside of this Wiki without permission of the author. Images are placed under Category:Images from Official Sources.

These tags are deprecated, however they exist as place holders, and should not be used at all.
